The Sunday Reset: A Bath Ritual for the Week Ahead

Candles, salts and a little slow time. Our step-by-step bath ritual for melting the week away and stepping into Monday renewed.

Bath ritual with candles on a bath tray

Sunday evenings have a particular feeling — the soft melancholy of a weekend ending, the low hum of the week to come. We like to meet that feeling with a ritual. Not a quick shower, but a proper, unhurried bath that draws a gentle line between rest and responsibility.

1. Set the scene

Tidy the bathroom first; clutter is surprisingly loud. Dim the overhead light and light a candle or two. Put your phone on do-not-disturb, queue a calm playlist or podcast and pour yourself a glass of water or herbal tea.

2. Dry brush before you soak

Using a soft body brush, sweep in long, gentle strokes from your feet upwards towards your heart. It takes two minutes, lifts away dry skin and leaves you feeling awake and tingly.

3. Run it warm, not hot

Very hot water strips the skin’s natural oils and can leave you feeling drained. Aim for comfortably warm. Add a handful of magnesium or Epsom salts for tired muscles, a splash of bath oil for softness, or a few drops of lavender essential oil diluted in a carrier oil.

A bath isn’t an indulgence. It is twenty minutes of being entirely, deliberately off-duty.

4. Mask while you soak

Steam softens the skin, making it the perfect moment for a hydrating sheet mask or a clay mask on oily areas. Pop a cool flannel over your eyes and let yourself do absolutely nothing for ten minutes.

5. Seal in the softness

Pat — don’t rub — your skin dry and apply body lotion or oil within three minutes, while skin is still damp. This locks in hydration far better than moisturising dry skin later.

Edit tip: Before you step out, spend one minute setting a gentle intention for the week. Not a to-do list — just a feeling you want to carry into Monday.

6. Slip into something soft

Fresh pyjamas, cosy socks, a made bed. Write three things you’re grateful for, switch off the lights a little earlier than usual and let the week begin from a place of calm.
